This is an interesting (and humorous) case.
We all enjoy seeing politicians' murky past catching up with them, don't we?
Yet, despite the News of the World's claims that it "does not tell lies", we can hardly trust the words of a seedy tabloid rag.
Anyway, there are some interesting allegations, including cocaine use, using prostitutes, swingers parties, sex clubs, etc. which is summarised here:

More here, and in the links on the right.

Edit 1. By the way... I wonder if an "addiction" to Scrabble isn't more shameful than swinger orgies and cocaine.
Edit 2. Maybe during the hearings an addiction to RHP arises from the testimonials, LOL!!
Tommy Sheridan is an absolute disgrace.
He has lied to the Scottish Socialist Party and lied to his family.
He has asked the SSP to lie on his behalf, which we refused to do.
I don't care what he does in his private life, but to try and claim it is all a political plot to get him just so he can try and save his reputaion is outrageous.
It is a shame that a guy who had put so much into the socialist movement turns out like this, but his recent behaviour is beyond the pale.
It is a complicated story, with all sorts of twists, but basically it has come down to one person's ego being bigger than their politics.
A real shame.

Interesting.
So does he have any support within the party?
Will this damage the party?
There is some support, from people who thought they were joining a personality cult rather than a political party.
There is also some kind of support from 2 of the organised factions - based around the notion that we should have supported him in his fight against the NotW, despite his admission to the party that they were basically true. Some people in this position have denied what was said at the key meeting in November 2004 and claimed the minutes are part of a vast conspiracy.
We've got an annual conference in October, which will sort it all out once and for all - Tommy's supporters will try and oust the leadership they think have failed to do the right thing, so we'll see what happens.
It will almost definitely damage the party, in the short term at least. There are all sorts of possible scenarios, not too many of which are positive. The priority in the short term will be to hold the party together.
Electorally, we'll need to say what happens next May. We'll probably not get 6 people in the parliament, especially if Tommy stands against us, but on the other hand we'll get some councillors (they've changed to PR), so we can build on that.

Get together with Redmike and have a love-in, divide all the wealth in the group evenly, pay the sweeper as much as the doctor, all no worries until him and his luv-in buddies start advocating force and threats of force, which unfortunately is precisely what is at the root of their ideas.

The problem was that he admitted it was, in the main, true but that he wanted to sue anyway and that the party should back him and lie for him.
When this wasn't forthcoming, he's invented a ridiculous story about a vast conspiracy to force him out, and has accused dozens of people in the party of lying and being in cahoots with the state.
Originally posted by PalynkaWell, We've a meeting in September to choose our election candidates for next year, and an annual conference in October where he might challenge the leadership.
Probably you'll be stuck with him a little longer.
We'll see what happens.
Unless we try and expel him, which nobody is suggesting, he's an MSP until next April anyway.
Of course, the NotW is likely to appeal.

Alas, poor mr. Sheridan won the court case because he isn't into any of that and the News of the World has to cough up the largest libel payment in Scottish history.
The News of the World with it's page 3 naked women and everything...
Originally posted by RedmikeI find it equally incredible both that (a) the News of the World, and multiple incriminating witnesses, would simply invent the whole thing, and that (b) Sheridan and his wife would so coolly, collectedly, and unitedly deny true accusations. I can't make up my mind about the case.
Astonishingly, it seems he has won his defamation case.
No idea what happens now!
