Earlier this month, a three-judge panel of a federal appeals court upheld [Former Orange County Sherriff] Carona's 2009 conviction on one felony count that stemmed from a secretly taped conversation in which Carona urged then-Assistant Sheriff Don Haidl to lie to a grand jury investigating his administration.

...During the two-month trial in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, prosecutors alleged that Carona accepted secret cash payments, had numerous illicit sexual affairs and provided campaign contributors with badges and concealed weapons licenses.

Apparently you could buy badges and concealed weapons licenses due to police corruption. Does this suggest that the Black Panthers were unfairly disarmed and that police terror that the black community keeps protesting against might be real?

Are illicit sexual affairs illegal now in California? That's surprising 🙂

It always struck me as bizarre that concealed weapons permits were in the hands of police chiefs alone in most California cities -- just inviting trouble.

Well, if they're used to manipulate the justice system they're illegal. "If you don't want your Dad to go to prison..."

This one's from Chicago:

Jon Burge, the former Chicago cop convicted of lying about his role in overseeing a ring of cops that tortured 100 black men, was sentenced to four and a half years in federal prison.
