Sometimes I think quite the opposite -- childhood is extended too long, and that creates a stress on people who are treated like children but biologically adults and who would be adults in othe ...[text shortened]... g a preschooler is except for the horrible addition of raging hormones.

I do see some of your points, a lot of kids are not prepared for adult life and that would be the fault of parents (or lack thereof) and the education systems of our various countries.
Kids are subjected to drugs and alcohol at a young age, they are preyed upon by big business at a young age as a boom resource to exploit, and worse still they are sexualised at a young age by media in persuit of sales of their magazines and shows.
Great points about the lack of kids in volunteer organisations and part time jobs. That is character building.
I dont know whether " it's bizarre to think that adolescence should be the grand festival that being a preschooler is except for the horrible addition of raging hormones", but i had some real fun with my friends during my teen years, jumping on my pushbike ond going on a 15 klilometre ride just for the hell of it, or going down to the park and playing footy or cricket..... you know, fun stuff.
I feel sad for the kids today when the fun in their lives is extinguished prematurely.

What the Finnish need to do is ban guns and the like just like everyone tells Americans to do when this happens.

It is sad that it happened and I can only pray for the families.

You do know that the Finnish actually have a very lax gun law in comparison with other European countries, don't you?

If anything, this reinforces the point of those you tried to criticize.

I'm well aware of the fact that the Finnish are lax on their gun laws, having one of the largest armed popluations in Europe.

And how does it reinforce the point of those I'm trying to criticize. The fact that one nut doesn't mean they should go all crazy and destroy their guns?

Why is hardening gun laws equal to "destroying their guns" and "going crazy"?

Personally I don't have a problem with lax gun laws. It is, however, rather coincidental that the majority of people who want to own a gun shouldn't though.
