What you are feeling there, namely in economics, are similar in Europe. With the disadvantage that our economy is way slower to adapt and to recover. I imagine arguments there are no different from here from both sides, going from home security to the path to grow in a ever globalized and open world. The turn of europe to right/far right is not without reason aswell. I can assure you that we aren't turning fascists/nazis here, just because right/far right is getting so strong. People just think that, for now, some measures that were taken like open borders, went too far. And calling Hitler to the table everytime someone defends something from right/far right is plain circus.
That said, in my opinion that worth really nothing besides pub talk, and totally political unbiased as i think that are you americans that have to choose your path, not a world council, i feel hard to believe the lack of stronger, more prepared, more informed, more everything than those two. We need in west the strongest leaders possible to keep balance, whatever they are leaning left or right. Namely there, for the strategic importance USA have.
