There have been attempts at different times to require women to register for the selective service in the U.S., since women are now eligible for all combat roles in the military. The move has been blocked (links show opposition lead by both a man and woman).
I think most people agree that women who are able meet the standards of the military should be accepted. So is there any reason why women should not be required to register with the selective service or be drafted?
@vivify saidBack in the day it was considered just as important to the nation to have kids as it was to have soldiers. Nowadays we don't seem to care about that any more.

@AThousandYoung saidAre you saying that only women can have kids??

Bigot!
@sh76 saidIt's an easy dividing line for half the population. Caitlyn Jenner can stay and home and raise the kid Brandon Teena birthed while Sgt Teena goes off to war with the rest of the men.

@AThousandYoung saidThat brings up an interesting question:

If women are drafted, should there be rules banning both parents of a family with children from being drafted?
all the militaries in all the world answering to the citizens of every country can wage war easily without any human interaction
computers have evolved to the point they rarely need a human
meat bags are superfluous
i say draft nary a single human, regardless of pronouns or representation or gender or height or weight or intelligence level or medical condition of any sort
including bone spurs
let the tech boys play battleship with their keyboards and memory chips and let the humans run naked thru the fields of happiness and frivolity
My opinion is that it should be as always.
Men required to register with Selective Service at 18. Women not required to register.
As I am someone who advocates more rights for everyone, not less, I say women may voluntarily register with Selective Service at 18.
Make everyone who registers subject to draft. AFAIK, we haven't had a draft in ages. And I don't see why we need to start now.
@Suzianne saidHmmm. I agree. I know why I think women should be left out of the draft. Why do you think they should be left out?

Women talk tough but come draft day they'll be running back to the kitchen to avoid any service in the armed forces.
The traditional wife will be the new rage that all women aspire for to avoid the draft.
They want equal rights but then say they shouldn't be drafted like men. @suzianne = hypocrite

@boonon saidAs much as I believe in equal rights, the facts are that women are smaller in stature than men (on average), and they tend to have less strength and muscle than men (again, on average). I know plenty of women capable of fighting competently with men, but the fact is that most can't. This is why I believe registering for Selective Service should be voluntary for them. Many are capable, and I would not presume to restrict them from serving their country. If there was a draft, everyone registered with Selective Service should be subject to it. Men have long been called on to serve their country in war, and this should continue, as long as there is need. I would not prevent women from doing this, but it should be voluntary for them, not mandatory.
