...up for grabs at the UN. There is a good chance that Russia will back South Africa's bid for one of them. How do you like the sound of that?!

The Security Council should not exist. See 'The UN is undemocratic...'

However it continues to exist. How do you fancy an African nation being on it for a change?

Unless the UN has undergone a backbone transplant recently .. it's meaningless.

The UN is a waste of time and money IMO

There are three African nations on the UN Security Council right now - the Republic of the Congo, Ghana and Tanzania. http://www.un.org/sc/members.asp

If you mean a proposed Permanent seat, A) I don't think any Permanent ones will or should be added; 2) I think Nigeria would be a better candidate for a Permanent African seat than South Africa.

Interested to hear your reasons for preferring Nigeria. Are they different to what this guy says:

Nigeria has about three times the population as South Africa. While not dispositive, it is a reason. I can't think of a single reason why South Africa would deserve a permanent member seat over Nigeria.

The South Africans are exporting their ideas about peacefully reconciling differences between people to other nations. They would probably do well on this committee or any other.

But the Security Council is wrong because no single member(s) should have a standing veto over a whole body.

Of course, this is an unelected body, therefore which wrong trumps the other?

Better to start over. Elect our UN representatives NOW!
