I don't see how abbreviating Pakistani to Paki is an insult.
Why is it OK to call someone a Pakistani but Paki is some kind of deadly insult?
Calling a Yankee a Yank isn't an insult, so what's the BFD?.
Calling a Canadian a Canuck isn't an insult either.

Something to do with how the speak English with their accent I think.
Where I grew up, in El Monte California, we were living in the 'Pachuco' district, also a slur since we were living in an area with a lot of Mexicans.
