Is there really any comparison between these 2 games in terms of skill? Snooker players can play pool to a high standard but could pool players play snooker equally well? In most cases their poor technique would mean they would play badly. The pockets are much smaller and it's not possible to pot a ball that hits the cushion 6 inches from the pocket. As a demonstration of the skill of snooker players, particularly for those not familiar with the game, check out the following

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the balls are smaller too, right? So it sortof
evens out. 😕

I don't know much about either sport so I should probably keep my fingers
off the board, though.

In snooker the long pots are longer due to the table being, well, longer.

it' the same as comparing the following

Boxing and Thai kick-boxing
French wine and Hngarian plonk
Rolls-royce and a Renault Megan
Thourough-breds and Cart-horses
The Roman Empire and the Otterman empire
New York and Newcastle
London and Lagos
Dublin and Dubai
Roses and weeds
Liverpool and Manchester Utd

niether are in the same league so why put them there for discussion snooker is a skilful game requiring concentration and determination and pool is a pub past-time rquiring 50cents a beer and some luck

Not really - proffesional pool players are hugely impressive to watch and very skilled. On the smaller, tighter and more packed table they employ a wider range of 'trick shots' to get around problems than you see in snooker.

However, I have seen pool competitions of world class snooker v's pool players and, even though pool is only a cousin to their game, the snooker players were superior every time.

So yeah, snooker is teh higher skilled game, but I don't think you can write pool off so easily.

Yes, but can you swim in snooker?

Yeah, I thought not. Pool is clearly superior.

Both games require a lot of skill and having seen some amazing trick shots over the years I'm not willing to say either game is better, simply different.

No i'm saying they are not in the same league, they have some skill but it is limited.....

i can use a ratchet and socket to remove the rocker cover from the top of any old engine, a skill of hand to eye co-ordination..

but i'd be donalded ducked if someone wanted me to replace the 5th gear cog on a BMW

thus my talent is limited
