If He is mortal, there is something that can kill Him, and He cannot survive that.
The inability to die or get lost deal more with god's assumed perfection than with his omnipotence, I think. Dieing or getting lost are not qualities that anyone would aspire to. They are not compatible with the concept of a perfect being.
