He's polluting this forum putting the same post about americans in every thread and I don't know you,but i'm pretty bothered by it.
Now that we can't alert moderators, I want that all of you alert those off-topic posts and we'll see if they will be removed.
If someone doesn't care about a post or idea is plain childish to spam the forum with the same post.
Thanks for reading.

You know, I'm wondering if that's really such a good idea...
It's actually abusing the new alert system, there's nothing that actualy qualifies for moderation in that post, it's just off-topic (nothing new there).
That he's spamming, is actually a banning offense, not a remove post offense. Removing the post might just spur him on to repost it again and again, then you alert it again and again, etc.
By showing such a concerted mass opposition to him, you'll just inflate his ego and encourage him...

Originally posted by MayharmI disagree. If posting something constitutes bannable behaviour (which I don't think it does - yet), then the offending posts deserve to be removed. A ban would surely be followed by all the spam being removed anyway. If accusing STANG of spamming causes him to spam even more, then he only has himself to blame if he's banned from the forums.

Originally posted by AcolyteI fully agree it isn't bannable behaviour just yet, he hasn't spammed that many threads. Therefore since it isn't bannable behaviour, neither are the posts which contain absolutely nothing that we would condemn in one single post. Ergo, the posts themselves do not qualify for moderation!

Although the posts might well be removed along with a ban, the motion that ravello is putting forward is to use the new automated feature. That means this will by-pass (initially at least) the moderators themselves. Theoretically they might not even be aware of this issue at all or how bad it is unless someone pm's them directly!
Finally, it's not the accusation of spamming that I said would encourage him to spam even more (Pay Attention!).
What I said was that this vigilante style of dealing with his posts will likely encourage him further. If that happens you have a full-scale conflict going on untill a mod actually becomes aware of it and hands out forum bans to those responsible...
Effectively, ravello is calling up a vigilante mob to misuse the new moderation system, get non-offensive posts removed and, depending on stang's personal character flaws, actually encourage him to spam even more.
I happen to think that's a highly questionable method of dealing with the problem...
I mean, just look at it from the moderator's point of view, whether or not you get enough alerts to remove all the posts, the encouragement to do so has almost certainly generated a lot of alerts, lets say 30-40. Prior to the new system a similar kind of mass alerting got someone banned.
Hopefully the "new tools" russ mentioned means this isn't so much workload for the mods, HOWEVER...we dont know that!
If we just ignore stang, it's likely he wont bother trying to push this on us any further (at least he might wait a week before bumping his thread up again). Antagonising him will just make it worse. If we provoke him, then according to sheep philosophy we're as much to blame. If he does it off his own bat then we've simply given all the more rope to hang himself by.
Alert A Post, Dont Alert A Person.
pm russ/the mods if there is an issue with the person.
MÅ¥HÅRM <- wondering why he's bothering with this lost cause...
Originally posted by MayharmI have no intention of alerting anything posted by STANG unless it is offensive, spam etc; I'm certainly not alerting the spammed message where it is not spam (ie in the original thread). If other people copy STANG's post and post it themselves repeatedly, I would alert that. So it really is nothing personal as far as I'm concerned.

I was under the impression that Russ wanted the community to moderate itself - it may be that there are no mods left except C&R themselves. Despite the flaws, I think this is a legitimate use of that system - it doesn't hide the problem from Russ/mods because they can almost certainly see a list of recently removed posts, just like hiding offensive posts doesn't get the poster 'off the hook'. As for the rent-a-mob aspect, I agree that it's unreasonable to put pressure on other people to alert posts (though with anonymous alerting from a user perspective, I don't see what kind of pressure non-mods could exert). I'm sorry if I gave a contrary impression; I was seconding ravello's accusation of spamming and the validity of alerting it.

I meant that using the "alert moderator" to deal with a person spamming the forums was the wrong way to go about it. Hence the second line just below it specifying the better way of dealing with that.
Basically, you have to draw a line between whether it is the wording/content of the post that is offensive OR the actions of the poster that are disruptive/offensive. The first you should deal with by alerting the post, the second by contacting the mods.
But I knew this was a lost cause before I began, vigilant-ise away...I give up on you 😞

Originally posted by MayharmDo I give the impression of being unreasonable? I hope not; my opinion simply differs from yours on the correct method to deal with spamming. A specific poster might spam, and in extreme cases this should indeed be reported to the authorities. However, in the mean time the vacuous or duplicated posts themselves are 'facts on the ground' so to speak, regardless of their origin, so I think it is appropriate to deal with them directly. If 100 posters each posted the same message once in different threads (in a way that drained it of any meaning, eg posting 'Kilroy was here' all over the place), it would still be spam, even if there was no single spammer. Also, making many distinct but vacuous posts is spamming - the issue is the vacuity of the posts, and I see no reason why we can't remove obvious clutter from the forums to make people's substantive responses easier to read. Think of it like a 'no littering' sign in a park - if you drop one crisp packet you haven't committed a serious offence, but the litter still needs clearing up.
I give up on you 😞

Yes,I just don't give a phuck about what the world thinks but I care about people posting the same thread a dozen times............
