What languages did Indo-European replace? If none that you know if, then it's indiginous.

For example, did the Celtic language displace some other non Indo-European language in Ireland?
I'm not sure about Celtic. If I understand correctly, they arrived somewhere around 0 AD, and I suppose there were people living on the British Isles before them. But is this really relevant? Languages change and evolve - it would probably be a lot easier for me to hold a conversation with someone speaking Afrikaans than someone speaking 12th century Middle Dutch.

Depends what variety of Afrikaans. I'd defy you to communicate with someone speaking fluent Gam.

Well, I'd defy you to speak with someone fluent in 12th century Middle Dutch, but they're all dead...

Well, I don't think Basque should be the official language of Spain.

Yet it as official status within the Basque autonomous region (I think).

Oh, they're so oppressed, the Basques. Especially compared to, say, the Pashtuns.

Oh wow...the Irish consider themselves by legend like the sixth culture in Ireland. Interesting. I didn't realize the conquests kept going back so far...

To the stone age looks like.

Then you have all those languages as the official languages.

but if you have, say, 80% of a country's population speaking one single language, naturally this should be the official language.

Ah. So you did a search for the word, apparently not knowing what it means or how it's spelled yourself. Wikipedia corrected you and you tried to turn it into a jab at me about the exact same mistake you made.

A hypocritical grammar Nazi.
