Why isn't there a backlash against outsourcing?

It's too easy to look the other way. The backlash you'll see is when people can't find jobs unless they work in similar conditions. And of course, you're starting to see that.

Even an ignoramus can see the whole global economy is about making a quick buck off of the imbalance of standard of living. The longer it goes the closer the standards will be around the world. Rock bottom!!! They will keep making money out of nothing to keep the people in the US fat and sassy for the time being but the bottom will fall out.

At US minimum wage, that would be $123 labor for the iPhone, versus the $30 it costs them in china.
That, of course, is only one of the cost benefits of production in china. Again, manufacturing in the US would drastically increase the cost of the iPhone.
Originally posted by WoodPushBased on your figures for cost of labour the difference in price would seem to be $93 rather than the $1600 you are claiming above. The cost of transport to the U.S. is reduced if it is being made there. It's quite possible the financial advantage is quite marginal - which means that it's not simply the cost of labour that is causing them to make it in China, but there are other factors possibly to do with the costs of setting up the factories - or problems with pollutants - or most likely of all the total absence of trade unions.

Besides, a low paying job here is obviously a lot more than a low paying job in China. As it is right now, we seem to be outsourcing pollution to China as well and the government refused to address the problem until recently by claiming the smog was merely fog. Denial like that can only be a profit incentive.
