@jimm619 saidHerd immunity works, it’s the main reason the human race has survived countless viruses and other pathogens. However your point, that trying to achieve herd immunity without taking any restrictive measures can be hugely risky, is fair.

In my opinion most countries went over the top and did more collateral damage than they avoided.

@divegeester saidIn the previous Spanish Flu pandemic, 50 million people died. This time around, only 6 million people died despite there being 6 billion more people.
In my opinion most countries went over the top and did more collateral damage than they avoided.
I'd say the "over the top" actions worked.

@divegeester saidI think you're using the term 'herd immunity' wrong. We lived with polio for over a thousand years. Herd immunity, delivered by vaccination, eradicated it.

Article states, 'Sweden had 10X mortality
rate as Finland or Norway,' their Nordic neighbors.
@rtmiller saidMental health crises ?
Sweden had less than 20000 deaths and 3/4 of their population are fully vaxxed.
I'd say that their methods worked very well when you consider that cases of mental health problems didn't go through the roof, like they did in countries that followed the CCP mantra!
3/4 vaxxed?.....LINK?

In any case, regardless of your priors, if the Omicron and Shanghai experiences hasn't taught you that lockdowns are futile in the long run or the horrors that happen when lockdown theory is taken to its extreme, you should read about both.
Unless you are not trying to say that we should lock down; in which case, fine, but what is it that you ARE trying to say?
@vivify saidYeah, because this virus is less deadly than the Spanish flu and because we got better treatments and good-ish vaccines.

Government-enforced NPIs until we got the vaccine and the Paxlovids of the world made some sense. Now, they're just pointless virtue-signaling.
