Ted Cruz Attacked by Conservative Pundits for Opposing Uganda’s Anti-gay Law
Ted Cruz came out in support of LGBTQ+ rights, sort of. He came out in opposition to a new law enacted in Uganda that makes homosexuality a crime.
President Yoweri Museveni signed a law that includes the death penalty Monday, escalating Uganda’s crackdown on LGBTQ+ people. The law is regarded as one of the most oppressive anti-gay laws in the world.
“This Uganda law is horrific & wrong,” the Republican tweeted on May 29. “Any law criminalizing homosexuality or imposing the death penalty for ‘aggravated homosexuality’ is grotesque & an abomination. ALL civilized nations should join together in condemning this human rights abuse.”
Fellow conservatives were quick to attack Cruz for his seeming moment of clarity.
Former Trump campaign legal advisor, sanctioned and disgraced lawyer Jenna Ellis tweeted her support for the law, leading to Cruz and Ellis getting into a public spat on Twitter.
She wrote that she “stand[s] with Uganda on this” legislation and that “You can condemn a law that imposes the death penalty for homosexuality without being pro or #LGBTQ. Like Bud Light, you should have just said nothing. Not this.”
Ellis equated homosexuality and child rape in a series of tweets she authored to justify her position.

Cruz on Monday responded to a pastor who criticized his opposition to Uganda's law.
Tom Ascol, pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, Florida, responded to Cruz's tweet calling out Uganda's law, writing: "Tell it to God, Ted," while citing a Bible verse frequently used to justify opposition to LGBTQ+ rights.
@vivify saidLet me give you another side to this story. The USA was held in high esteem, for many decades by 3rd world countries all over the world. The US was the place to go to live or for vacation, to study. The US produced great moviies, had cutting edge technology, fast cars, and a lifestyle worth copying. Their currency was stable and the country was like a paradise for the people of many poor countries.

Now ? USA has
- the fattest, most unhealthy population in the world.
- among the least educated population in the world
- the most shallow and materialistic people
- the most unhealthy food and eating habits
- the most obnoxious kids and teenagers one can imagine [just visit Disney for proof]
- the most evil and Satanic Christian churches, leaders and pastors
- the most backward schools and most damaging school curriculum
- and now more recently the most active group of LGBTQ who seem to want to control the population and particularly the kids in schools.
So now many of these 3rd world countries and going to overcompensate so that they will not implode like the US. Death to homosexuals is one such example. As far as these poor countries are concerned, these people have become far too vocal and are getting more and more demanding ... like PRIDE MONTH ... what the hell is that. A whole month of celebrating what ???
Many countries have come out and spoken in very strong language about the dangers of allowing a small minority to control the majority to the point where the rights of the majority are removed. People are scared their peaceful country, get like the US. I dont blame them.

@vivify saidI can not be bothered to look to close at this but I have a question, Does " aggravated homosexuality " mean " rape "? If so then, even though I may be wary of the death penalty, I am ok with the provision for it.

@jimmac saidNo. It means they’ve changed the definition of homosexuality, so that it sounds evil.

Under the new law, "aggravated homosexuality," a charge that may result from sexual relations with HIV-infected persons, as well as sexual abuse of minors or members of other vulnerable classes, is punishable by death. "Attempted aggravated homosexuality" can now warrant a prison sentence of up to 14 years.
