The single currency ten years on - The euro: trouble ahead?

”The euro is celebrating its 10th birthday in upbeat mood. But the single currency has failed to deliver significant benefits to the countries that signed up to it. And whether it can survive unscathed the crisis engulfing the global economy is an open question –

Will the Euro-skeptics join in? Transfer remains elusive for fear of further diluting national sovereignty. The third condition – which is easier to meet – calls for a hefty dose of “fiscal federalism” and would transfer significant taxing and spending power away from national governments to the EU.

As an American I can only give a one sided view of this subject, however the Euro's difficulties seem to be rooted more in the current economic mess, than anything else. The concept of a euro currency is a good one, and I believe, will deliver the desired economic benifit in the long run. Good things....sometimes take time. 😏
