The American economy is going through a difficult period, no doubt about it. You can blame Bush and the Republicans, or you can blame Obama and the Democrats, OR You can quit whining, suck it up and deal with it. Economies all over the world go through good and bad times, the American economy is no exception. There is plenty of blame to go around for this. There is also much we can be thankful for. History has shown that the best way to deal with this economic mess is to stick to the basics of spending less than you make, starting a savings program, using credit sparringly and responsibly, and if you are unemployed, make finding a job, a full time job. The alternative to this is to go into panic mode and run around like a chicken with your head cut off (which is always interesting and fun to watch) looking for someone to blame. It's your choice, but I like the first solution better. 😏

Although people should certainly spend less than they make and learn to save, it can be unwise to get people to change their habits at the same time as a recession is starting.
In fact the boom bust cycle is precisely because people have a feedback tendency that leads them to do the opposite of what is best for the economy. If people spent more during recessions and saved more during boom times, there would be far less fluctuation.
last time, it was the Democrats in the White House, and a bust the spring before the election. this time, it is the Republicans in the White House, and another bust before the election. different characteristics but still a bust.
maybe we should tell our politicians not to downtalk the economy when it's not need, just so they can boost their positions in the polls.
newsweek (or something i read recently) said the US economy is 70 pct consumer-driven. in that case, maybe it's not the smartest thing to do to constantly denigrate the economy, whether you're a politician or a journalist.
