Since the crash of 2008, I think the American people are resigned to the fact that what they see around them i.e. high unemployment, a weak economy, preferential treatment for the rich, lawmakers from both political parties more concerned about staying in power, rather than solving anything is the new normal. Many are angry of course, but I see most are just tired of watching this political circus in Washington D.C.
No matter what deal is approved, the Bad guys have won. America will continue to subsidize Oil and Tobacco companies with Billions of American tax dollars for no good reason, The rich will enjoy many tax loopholes enabling them to continue to escape paying there fair share in taxes, while waitress's making $10.00/hr get there tips taxed, Hard working American's will continue to have there jobs stripped from them and sent to China, because they won't work for $12.00 a day, Social Security that millions of hard working Americans have paid into for decades is now classified as an "entitlment" will continue to be eroded by spineless lawmakers who won't raise the necessary tax revenue to pay America's bills. Thank God I've completed the paperwork to become a duel citizen of another country, and have the option to step off this sinking ship! (I'm so sorry if I misspelled anything)
I'm resigned to the fact that nothing will get accomplished until after the next election. I'll hold off judgement until after the next election to see what the next Republican President/ Senate/ House will do. If it's anything like what GW did, I think this country is about done too.
We can only ride Reagan's legacy for so long. We have fallen our way back through and Idiot like Ford to an incompenent ideolog like Carter, I don't see a Reagan.

Originally posted by EladarThe present Republicans would find Reagan too much of a "socialist" for their tastes; he had a history of proposing record budget deficits and then a later history of proposing some tax increases to mitigate them.

These dreams are now rapidly fading away, there were many opportunities in 2008, but in 2011 we can see that many of them died a terrible death at the hands of the reactionary forces currently dominating Congress.

Perhaps it was the Tea Party who made the government allow corporations like GE not to pay any income taxes last year. Or perhaps it was the Tea Party who prompted GE to force through legislation to ban incandescent light bulbs so they could then close down those bulb making factories and ship those jobs to China etc.
