Federal authorities on Thursday charged Stewart Rhodes, the leader and founder of the extremist far-right Oath Keepers militia, and 10 other people with seditious conspiracy and other crimes for their alleged roles in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

An indictment alleges that after the November 2020 presidential election, Rhodes and others conspired to oppose by force the transfer of presidential power from then-President Donald Trump to Joe Biden, which included plans to breach and try to take control of the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The conspiracy allegedly involved the amassing of firearms on the outskirts of Washington, D.C, and distribution to so-called quick reaction force teams to support the effort to keep Trump in office, according to the indictment, issued by a grand jury in DC federal court.

Many of these people honestly believed they'd just bust into the capital and take over the government. 🙄

Why would a stash of weapons speed up arrests? Do you think the FBI has some kind of weapon stash-seeking radar? Or are you imagining a cache of weapons sticking out from under a mattress?

You are too stupid to debate.

Court cases do take some time to get an indictment. Especially Federal.
Usually it takes more time if they really want all of the evidence.

I don't know if any of it is true but one year to bring charges isn't that long...especially during covid where the courts are slower.

an indictment would not be necessary if there was a large stash of weapons

Unlike some charges, indictment offences have no limitation period to when the accused is charged, tried, acquitted or convicted. Aside from the charge of treason, you can have an indictable offence charged laid against you anytime after the offence has occurred.

This case had no violence or anyone hurt.
(The stash of weapons and conspiracy...not Jan 6th)
So they can take their time building the case...then get a federal indictment.

It's the same strategy they use for mob bosses or organized crimes.

After an arrest the Feds still need to present the case to the grand jury for an indictment.
In this case they got the indictment first.

Which means the grand jury believes they committed a crime.
No point arresting them and then the grand jury says no case.
That would embolden the far right.

They probably spent a year trying to get someone to be a snitch too.

do you honestly believe if there was a group of armed people trying to overthrow the govt the fbi would wait on a grand jury before they arrested them?

the other 700+ arrested dont think so

@Mott-The-Hoople
They are going after the fire starters now. Like Meadows, Jim Jordan, Hawley, Trump, Kevin McCarthy. THOSE are the conspirators who started this insurrection.
Those dudes are ALL traitors because they conspired to overthrow the government by force.

No I don't believe a group of armed people were going to do anything.

I believe they set up a stash of weapons and talked about doing something.

That is a crime.
Conspiracy.

When I was in the Feds I met many inmates who were doing long sentences because of a phone call or talked about doing something.

The USA is very strict on Conspiracy.

Canada doesn't have a Conspiracy charge.
They wait until you try to execute the action.

The USA can lock you up for talking/planning/recruiting for an event.

Even if it's all just for talk and bluster they can charge you.

You right-wing morons are the ones giving the militias a free ride when you claim it's all BLM and antifa. Stupid as dirt, that's why you all voted for Trump twice.
