Here we are in mid April and already a major employer in the US is going bankrupt. Is it a harbinger of things to come?
Exclusive: Neiman Marcus to file for bankruptcy as soon as this week - sources
"It has also furloughed many of its roughly 14,000 employees."
and...
"Some of this debt is the legacy of its $6 billion leveraged buyout in 2013 by its owners, private equity firm Ares Management Corp (ARES.N) and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB)."
This means that pensioners in Canada will now be negatively affected.
And this is just April.

@earl-of-trumps saidYou might as well get used to it. because there will be more. There are only 2 options here: 1. Send employees back to work, where many will most certainly die. 2. Keep restrictions in place until a vaccine is developed. Pick your poison, but remember: This virus doesn't care if you're a conservative or liberal. It doesn't care which God you pray to. It doesn't care if you're rich or poor. If you're body is not strong enough to defeat it. - You will die.

@mchill saidAgreed. Either mass unemployment or mass graves.

@mchill saidBack this up. If 14000 people get this virus, how many would die?

@ghost-of-a-duke saidWhy? It is a valid question for this discussion. Is it as many as Spain? Or France?
Seriously, can't you just quarantine your brain until this pandemic is over?
@ghost-of-a-duke said"Are those 1500 fatalities not worth worrying about?"
Sweden has around 14000 confirmed cases (fitting your initial question) of which about 1500 have died.
Are those 1500 fatalities not worth worrying about?
Morally. Sure.
Statistically. No. They were likely to died in the very near future regardless of COVID.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidNatural causes, many of which would be dead soon enough.

How many people die in Sweden every year?
Found it, about 90k people
@ghost-of-a-duke saidIn Sweden. No.
Can you substantiate that assertion?
But in the US. Its obvious.
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm
About 91% of COVID deaths are age group 55 and older. Significantly weighted near the end of that group. They are most likely to hold the co-morbidities necessary for COVID to kill you.
Even if the deaths from COVID are Tripled its comprises less than 7% of ALL deaths to date in age groups 55 and greater. Its killing off the weakest of the weak in a population of people already most likely to die.
