when i was in grade school
about a trillion years ago
a required course of study was civics
sometimes tied in with economics, they did their dangdest to edumactate us in the finer arts of diplomacy, finance, and assassination
i learned under the threat of the lash that our form of government was the absolute best anyone had seen since plato or caesar or the emperor of japan or attila the handmaiden
ours was a republic!
mainly for white folks, but we let others exist as long as they didn't use our water fountain, or mess with our womenfolk, or sing songs of freedom and stuff
we voted! we had the right to say stuff that pissed off the neighbors, as long as we kept the grass cut to less than ten inches

now since that time when america was great, and rich folks were taxed at a rate that they not only could afford easily, most were happy to know they were contributing to a system that was fair and just and free of corruption

and don't even get me started on the freedom i had to practice any ole religion i wanted!
as long as i didn't say 'satan' or 'witch' or 'ouija board' or, depending on company, 'catholic' or 'communist' or a bunch of other words i am uncomfortable even typing because i know the CIA is watching and they have been since i was a wee tyke swallowing the MK-Ultra

anyhow
lately it has come to my attention that there are many sorts of democracies that while they do not mirror the greatest of all, they tend to work
sorta like an internal combustion motor, tuned, but not tuned just so
i like the concept of "snap elections"
when a leader or leaderess decides they need the entire populace all on the same surfboard and they ask for input from the common folks and then they listen to that input and go with what the people want!
