I am not American. And I don't care whether or not the Republicans or the Democrats win the 2008 election. But I listen to disgruntled 'progressives' and 'liberals' chuntering on breathlessly about Dennis Kucinich even though it appears he has no more chance of gaining the White House than Frank Zappa did in 1992.

So, as a matter of slip-cordon type conjecture, what would be the main initiatives and (possible) events during the first 100 days of a Dennis Kucinich presidency?

Now, if you are one of those posters who is inclined to say something like "Kucinich will install Osama Bin Laden as Secretary Of State...", please leave us alone and go and start your own thread and talk amongst yourselves. Please.

I am an American and dont know much about him, so I looked him up and below could represent his first 100 days.

(cut and paste)

His platform for 2008 includes:

* Creating a single-payer system of universal health care that provides full coverage for all Americans by passage of the United States National Health Insurance Act.
* The immediate withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Iraq; replacing them with an international security force.
* Guaranteed quality education for all; including free pre-kindergarten and college for all who want it.
* Immediate withdrawal from the World Trade Organization (WTO) and North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
* Repealing the USA PATRIOT Act.
* Fostering a world of international cooperation.
* Abolishing the death penalty.
* Environmental renewal and clean energy.
* Preventing the privatization of social security.
* Providing full social security benefits at age 65.
* Creating a cabinet-level "Department of Peace"
* Ratifying the ABM Treaty and the Kyoto Protocol.
* Introducing reforms to bring about instant-runoff voting.
* Protecting a woman's right to choose while decreasing the number of abortions performed in the U.S.
* Ending the war on drugs.
* Legalizing same-sex marriage.
* Creating a balance between workers and corporations.
* Ending the H1B and L1 Visa Programs
* Restoring rural communities and family farms.
* Strengthening gun control.
* Supports reparations for slavery.

Thanks for that. It's a very interesting platform. Certainly a fresh approach to the ailing America's problems. There's be powerful special interest groups that would stand in his way! (including a few Prescott Sheldon Bush types plotting fascist coups, no doubt!) I just found the two points above a bit too wooly and therefore not really relevant to the '100 days' thing. Thanks again for the info.

GOOD

BAD

* Immediate withdrawal from the World Trade Organization (WTO) and North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
* Ratifying the ABM Treaty and the Kyoto Protocol.
* Strengthening gun control.

The rest I'm indifferent to or uncertain about.

Agreed. I'd add say free college education for all is a step way too far if college over there is anything like university over here. I'd agree with the Iraq thing, but he sounds like he'd make it too abrupt. Repealing the USA PATRIOT act could only be a good thing. Environmental + clean energy better not mean corn ethanol - prairie grasses are seem to be the way forward, though that could be what he means by restoring rural communities.

* Protecting a woman's right to choose while decreasing the number of abortions performed in the U.S.
... how?

* Supports reparations for slavery.
I'm not sure about this one - if they're given then they'll quit asking for them. It's a gesture, yes, but why should people have to pay for the sins of their fathers? They won't change anything though, hand-outs never do.

You're kidding right? Kucinich was the worst mayor in the history of Cleveland! You can rest assured that he's not a viable candidate for the office of President of the United States. His policies (gun control, socialized health care, Fairness Doctrine) put him so far out of touch with normal Americans that there is 0 possibility of him being elected. His only chance would be for all the other candidates to be in Washington, D.C., during a terrorist attack that killed everyone and left him as the last man standing.

That is, in fact, what I said. Hence my reference to Frank Zappa in 1992. Look, if you don't understand a post just say so. Or refrain from posting. Try to avoid being so self-righteously silly all the time. Almost every single one of your posts seems to be snide and partisan beyond parody.

I'd agree with all of them except for the withdrawl from WTO and NAFTA. (don't know much about the visa program so no comment there)

Those are impossibly misguided and pander to the extreme leftists who have no conceptual understanding of world finance.

Any leader who purports this idea is either pandering or an idiot.

You say his candidacy has as much chance as Frank Zappa's did in 1992, then you go on to ask what his first 100 days would be like. Now you condemn me for answering your question. Are you deranged and/or on drugs?

What I said was try to avoid being so self-righteously silly all the time. I also commented that almost every single one of your posts seems to be snide and partisan beyond parody. And your retort was: "Are you deranged and/or on drugs?" QED.
