This was an interesting read for both its polemic and its review of American history:

On my side, maybe I'm a fool but I still think that despite all the bad things that are "allowed" to happen, there might still be Something watching over us and protecting us from ourselves.
Heaven or Nothing help us if that turns out not to be the case!

@Arkturos saidI've thought the same about the writers at National Review, who I used to respect. They were fiercely anti-MAGA about 10 years ago, and correctly saw all the signs of authoritarian tendencies.

Now they just hide their views, refuse to take a stand, ignore the obvious. Waiting for a miracle I guess. Probably its a function of the revenue in online digital content, if they start writing real articles then no one will read it, but their top story today is about bashing Kamala Harris for the 100th time and how bad Democrats are with messaging. Every other article is about trans panic.
Its sad

The arc of history is a narcotic that robs us of human responsibility, in allowing us to believe in some mysterious mechanism that will make things come out right by a sort of magic. Much elite political commentary of the last decade, with its talk of institutions and guardrails, is a species of whistling past the graveyard. In truth, an era — our era — is only as good or bad as the citizens who live in it; there is no historical process to bail us out.
This is an interesting statement, considering that old legal concepts like stare decisis have been thrown out the window in recent years. I think that if the legal frameworks that keep things working correctly can be overturned so easily and without any explanation from the courts, then it is a shakier system than what we were taught in school.
@wildgrass saidIt's because there is now a semi-cohesive national conservative narrative, called "Whatever Trump Wants". If you buck the narrative, you're in danger of getting sued for $10 billion.

Yes, it's sad that this little boy the world ignored for so long (mainly because he constantly spewed nonsense) is now the favored heir apparent for coagulated white angst against everyone and everything. We won't see the end of this gravy train, either, at least until the world gets damned sick of it and finally does something about it.

@Suzianne saidYeah how many congressmen now answer questions about why implement a specific thing, and the answer is "because trump wants me to."

They're zombies.
I read this morning that the DOJ is filing official disciplinary complaints against any judges who say bad things about trump or rule against the administration. Intimidating them.
