Americans have been convinced to think that government is bad. But civilization only arises when governments protect all our rights equally. πŸ˜†

Civilization does NOT result from free markets! Free markets are wonderful at inventing things people want, but free markets are completely amoral. Free markets came up with the slave trade, the drug trade, the arms trade and political corruption ("How much for your vote, Senator?" ) In a free market, things which should NEVER be sold, like justice, are up for grabs - and the rich grab more, as a matter of course.

Ironically, free markets immediately collapse without governments protecting them, enforcing contracts, rules, etc. The people who call for getting rid of government and "privatizing everything" are fooling themselves: government cannot ever be privatized. Because once that happens, civilization collapses. Into what? The usual thing: gangs and warlords competing to steal one another's cattle. This arc is 100% predictable, but it doesn't stop ignorant people from calling for it.

Government which preserves civilization is humanity's greatest gift so far - right up there with vaccines and flush toilets. Government creates the order which allows free markets to flourish.

We should love our government. We should preserve, protect, and defend the basis for our government which is the Constitution.

But many Americans don't believe in government anymore. They think government is BAD. So they don't really care who runs for office, they don't really care who gets INTO office, and good people who ordinarily would go into government refuse to get involved (qv. Mitch Daniels of Indiana).

And the result? We had yesterday the spectacle of an unqualified orange baboon of a pretender, surrounded by his sycophantic chimps howling at a strong, dignified, pro-democracy, pro-humanity leader in the White House, a leader who is desperately fighting to preserve the freedoms and rights only a government can guarantee in his own country.

All because Reagan said, "government is the problem." And people applauded instead of calling him an idiot and running him out of town. πŸ˜†

BTW, I heard that on March 4th, Congress is going to pelt Trump with eggs during the SoU. πŸ˜†

That'll be funny! πŸ˜†

Anyone can see for himself what an unregulated market looks like, and where everything runs on fealty, in Haiti. Trust me, I’ve seen it; it’s not pretty. Life there is poor, nasty, brutish, and short, even for those are relatively wealthy there.

"Who Watches the Watchers?"

Because politicians are rarely held accountable for anything they do, they most often turn to corruption.

We need more secure "check and balance". For example, How can we expect the president's pick
for Attorney General to investigate the President and anybody in the president's aegis?

The Old Guard and the big generals are all filthy rich and nobody cares

Your first sentence is incorrect. No one thinks government is bad. But government can certainly be too large. We want small government. Having read all of your post for years, y’all want large government. You are dependent, therefore you need something to depend on.
It is difficult to read a socialist, ….free markets are completely amoral. Jesus. Where do you buy your computer?
What do you mean that government can never be privatized?
Then you say that many Americans don’t believe in government anymore. What in the hell do you mean. Without government, there is only anarchy. Your post is getting so stupid. I think I’ll quit reading it. You said that we think the government is bad. What in the hell are you talking about? This is like nothing I’ve ever read, going right down into a rabbit hole.

Angry libs. So sad. Watch how your fretting will age you for 4 years.

No regulation ever invents new laws; they can't. πŸ˜†

The function of regulation is to ensure that the courts are not overwhelmed. Regulations are promulgated so that everyone knows exactly what the law is in specific situations.

Otherwise, every SINGLE legal dispute ends up in court. We don't have the time or resources (or inclination; courts like to make narrow rulings) to handle that volume of disputes. πŸ˜†

Regulation has nothing to do with socialism but with the complexity of laws; unfortunately, we have a lot of very complex laws that require a lot or regulations to be written that illustrate them.

Libs are not angry at present. The orange gibbon certainly lost his cool, though. What a childish temper tantrum, with all his "bullies" behind him. Not very sporting - what a weak display. And very embarrassing for you - you must feel like SUCH an idiot! πŸ˜†

Such a man-child.

I already told you. Do you listen? πŸ˜†

Reagan (First Inaugural Address. 1981): "Government is not the solution to our problem; government IS the problem."

That tape has been playing over and over for 44 years now.

It needs to end because it has become highly corrosive to our society. πŸ˜†

Good morning.
Reagan also said..." The 9 most terrifying words (are). "I am from the government and I am here to help." Surely you realize that he is saying that we do NOT want government in our lives.
You said above: Americans have been convinced to think that government is bad.
You meant to say too much government is bad, didn't you? That is what Reagan said. Government should not regulate beyond logic and common sense.

Consider: You like government. Its OK, all of you do. Free stuff. If Sue gets her way with free education all the way to your grave, do you think she will stop with that? No,,,she will say that was easy. I think I will get another sign that says "Free Housing for Everyone". Brrrrrrrrr

Justice not only should be free - it HAS to be free. Otherwise, it is not just.
Elections are not only free - they HAVE to be free. Otherwise, they are not fair.
Speech has to be free. Otherwise, we have repression.
Association has to be free. Otherwise, we have no liberty.
Access to clean air and clean water has to be free. Otherwise, how can we live?
Being taught what the law and civic rules are has to be free. Otherwise, how can we stay out of prison?

The best things in life ARE free, @AverageJoe1. All of the most important things are free.

You are right: Government preserves, protect and defends our right to FREE STUFF, for all of us, absolutely equally. There is nothing like FREE STUFF. It is the best and greatest stuff in the world and it absolutely has to be free for us to live in freedom and liberty. Like it says on the package. πŸ˜†

YOu bein' silly now.
Let us, and 330M other people ,stipulate to everything you write in the first six lines of your post. It is a given, is it not. (?)

Your following paragraph, a bit curious and perplexing, that you would feel a need to write that. Of course, you could have omitted the word 'free', as the govt does indeed protect stuff, free or not.

In other words, where you going on this topic? I'm lost. (Please dont do a Sue and say yeah, Joe you are always lost, such as that.
