The best part about the speech was that he recognized non-believers.

"For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus -- and nonbelievers."

Along with that is the rejection of the notion that America is a 'Christian nation.'
Tell the truth, were you able to watch Rich Warren give the opening prayer or did you mute it or turn it off temporarily?

Actually, he specifically did mention unbelievers as part of the mix of Americans.
Obama said "nonbelievers," not unbelievers. It's a subtle point, but I think the connotations differ.

I didn't see it. My wife saw it, though, and said she thought it was a good speech. I'd watch it if I could find a link to it. It is my impression that Mr. Warren is not quite the essence of evil and that he does have a few redeeming qualities.

In a strange twist of fate, my wife and I bought a house in the fall. It turns out that the buyer's agent we used is a Jesus freak (he seemed like such a nice fellow). He recently sent us a copy of Warren's book, "The Purpose Driven Life." So I may pick through that in the coming months as well.

It's an inaugural speech.
What exactly were you expecting or hoping for and what would you re-write if you had the opportunity to?
But where was the big memorable one-liner?
"ask not what your country......etc etc"

and he never even said "..you know what i'm saying...." once bruv

the bbc said "a black face in a high place" thats maybe more memorable than what obama said, although why they insist on defining him as "black" i dont know, I understand he is of mixed black/white race.

Do you think it is possible for a non-christian American to be president?

If he is sufficiently Machiavellian, yes. He must pretend to be a Christian. Of course, the most devout Christians in American politics are the furthest from the teachings of Jesus.
