@mchill saida) Trump needs this to end very soon because mid-term elections are on the horizon. If this 'special police action' is still going on by Nov., and especially if Americans are coming home in body bags, the Republican Party is toast and they will loose control of Congress.

b) In true Trump fashion--we've seen this countless times in civil lawsuits brought against him--he simply declares he won, even when the verdict was clearly against him, and demands that the court seal the settlement so no one can see that he paid out a huge sum for the other party's silence. He thinks he can do this in international politics as well: simply declare that he won and go home. This talk about 'surrender' is preparing the conceptual space for him to declare victory to the American press, regardless what is going on in Iran.
c) This won't be over when Trump says it is. Iran will be targeting Americans wherever they are in the world for the next 50 years. No one forgets a murdered school girl, let alone 165 of them.
