The "Democratic stronghold" of Virginia had a Republican governor and a GOP majority in its House of Delegates until 2023. It will now have a Democratic Governor and 64 of 100 seats in the House of Delegates in Democratic hands.
The "Democratic stronghold" of Pennsylvania had two statewide judicial elections which were both won by Democrats by more than 12%.

If his campaign was no help to the GOP in across the river New Jersey this year, where the same Republican who lost by 3% in 2021 got routed by 13% this time, why on Earth would it aid any national Republican candidate in 2028? Yelling "communist" and/or "terrorist" about any left leaning official anywhere in the US doesn't look like the surefire winning strategy gullible MAGA types think it is.

As for progressives, let's face it - when Mandini won the Democratic primary he was a prohibitive favorite in the general election. And his two main rivals were an incumbent mayor indicted on Federal corruption charges and pardoned by Donald Trump(!) and an ex-governor forced out of that office due to multiple sexual harassment scandals. Given such weak opposition, I'm doubtful the election of a 34 year old near political neophyte with no executive experience is really indicative of any significant political shift.
