Im 17 and I live in England (surrey). I have noticed over the course of the last few years that general social ettiquite is disappearing out the window! We have an increasing large numbers of what we call Pikeys, if you dont know what that means, it means the type of person to start a fight, generally insult everybody, vandalise everything (even youth centres that were built for them!!) and steal loads.
I live in a area called Haslemere, there is a now a council estate down one end of the town, and guess what? They now have a problem with vandalism and fighting down there, so the council built a youth centre for them. This youth centre was finished about 3 months ago - and 2 weeks after it opened every window was smashed, and the whole place torn apart!
I am the typical 17 year old stoner, into metal etc. and i have so many problems with people like pikeys. (One tried to mug me in guildford!) What makes people go like this? It seems they are un-evolving! From watching their behaviour I have decided that they act a lot like animals, especially in the way they treat girls and other people. People like these have no compasion for any other being!
What is everyones thoughts on this? Is this problem everywhere or just England? Is it because of easy going laws? Is there a solution to the problem? And what is the cause to the problem?
p.s. - Sorry for the badly written stuff above! Im in a hurry to leave for college! I think the general meaning is there but I didnt have time to put it in more detail, with more examples etc.
😕

Well, in any group of people, some of them won't be very nice. In a densely populated area, you're more likely to run into them. Other causes of townieness include testosterone (townies think they're super-tough by being nasty to everyone), readily available booze, parents not paying attention to what their kids are doing and a lack of other things to do (did your local chess club close down recently? 😉)
No, it's not restricted to England. I saw a website recently about the 'ned' problem in Glasgow, complete with a ned-watchers guide to the different kinds.
I think one thing we should do is ban 'happy hours', as they encourage binge drinking in the same way a sale encourages people to buy more. The police have been given more powers to deal with delinquents (including ABSOs), but I think ultimately it has a lot to do with how much attention these teenagers get from their parents - if all they've got is one parent who's at work most of the time and is too stressed to do anything except shout at them at home, it's not surprising that they become antisocial.

We need more brutal police.

I think such games should be banned.
trust me nothing new, they that distroy will end up distroyed, it happend in my youth and will always before and after. tho my parents time they vandalised by dropping bombs. and they always told me it was the best years of there lives. they used to sit as a group {male and female) watching the germans bombing and the anti aircraft trying to shoot them. so just be yourself and try to enjoy life without hurting or distroying over time this will benifit you.

When I was young, playing out meant playing. We played games, even war-like, cowboys and indians, soldiers, whatever.
All of the friends I played with are reasonably well balanced now with no violent tendencies. We also played violent computer games.
Nowadays kids who are out on the street seem to "play" by trying to make everyone's life a misery.
Thankfully, I live in quite a nice area, but in other areas close to me verbal abuse is the least you can expect walking down the street.
One "fun" thing which is popular with the kids in town is to set fire to an old building, call the fire brigade, then chuck stones at the firemen from a vantage point!
The argument that there is nothing for the kids to do holds no water - as said in the first post, youth centres are targets for vandalism and there is plenty to do anyway.
