Yah, well the government does not run the utilities in this country. Once again a European fail.

Ah, I see. Depending on government: boo! Depending on private companies: yay!

We need to ban 5 gallon buckets.
Not a good analogy with guns, by the way. The public having 5-gallon buckets serves a useful purpose. Conversely, the public having a insane massive proliferation of guns serves no useful purpose.

US utility companies are heavily regulated by the government.

I will make my own 5-Gallon bucket with a 3-D printer. Nobody tells me what size buckets I can have. I like to make my own beer with large buckets.

Being able to defend yourself serves no useful purpose? Wow, you have lived a very sheltered life.

Wait just a minute here. What we need to do is register these buckets and run background checks on those that buy them. Those with toddlers will be denied access to them.

When the founders wrote the constitution they could not have foreseen how the use of the modern 5 gallon bucket would impact society. There should be an amendment treating bucket owners as sex crime offenders. Register them all !!!!!!!!!

You don't get to dictate utility to the American public.

It would seem rational to hold a degree of skepticism to both private entities and government. However government alone has the force and coercion to make you do things. No matter how much money Bill Gates has, he can't come with a gun and force me to use Windows.

Perhaps useful to the individual (although even that is debatable) but not
useful to society. But right-wingers don't care about society do they.

I agree with you. A much better analogy is cars. People being able to drive fast serves no useful purpose and results in thousands of fatalities every year. Not to mention the cost to the public every year of dealing with traffic accidents related to speeding. Here's a nice stat sheet for you. It's a little dated, but you get the idea.

They put something called a governor on a golf cart to keep it from going too fast, why not cars? How many lives could be saved by limiting the speed of cars to say 40 miles an hour?
