When should Tony Blair resign? Should he go soon to allow Gordon (if it is him) to settle in before the next election or should he stay for as long as possible to deflect attention from the next administration but run the risk of being overshadowed by the rise of David "just call me Dave" Cameron?

There's no need for him to step down. It would be easier if he just hands the keys over to Mr. Cameron after the next election, rather than giving them to Mr. Brown to do the honours. Let's cut out the middle man. 😀

Originally posted by AThousandYoungHe said that he is going to step down at some point in this term. its been a long running thing that originally he promised Brown that he would step down before the last election but changed his mind. There is a big debate in the British press (well not at the moment as they have been distracted by lebanon and the terror plot) about when this will be.
Why should he resign? Is there something specific or is this just about hating conservatives?
I personally think they should just hand over the keys to No.10 to Boris - he is a natural PM.
I have seen the future and its blond and bumbling.
Originally posted by AThousandYoungTony Blair is the leader of the Labour party. He lied, is lying, and will continue to lie, As such even the things ha says that are true can't be pro forma trusted, He is power hungry, overly Authoritarian, and overly legislative. He and his government HAVE to go, almost regardless of who replaces them, and they should have gone last election when we knew of his lying. All politicians will lie at some point, however when they get caught they have to step down, he didn't, and then the British public in a wave of apathy and stupidity re-elected him. People say that all positions are the same and that none of them do what they promise and lie, however this is because we let them get away with it, if you lie and get caught you should LOSE any following election, if the people who replace them do it they should LOSE there next election, until this happens they will continue to take the outrageous liberties they do at the moment, the apathetic have none to blame but themselves.

We're planning an exceptionally warm reception for him.
He will resign in the following week.
