Why don't the compassionate ones just eliminate the death penalty?

The post that was quoted here has been removedWe have philosophical differences of opinion and I never argue with people who believe in the death penalty, as I did so myself for much of my adult life. I switched when I was at age 50. That is the beauty of life, we are dynamic.
Now, as far as today's Repubs are concerned, they know that the executions will stop when Biden comes in so strike now.
If the democrats want to do something constructive while they control the house and the presidency, let them change the law.
It beats the hell out sitting there b'yotching about it.

The post that was quoted here has been removedI. Not unlimited but the Dems can at least make the move. And on this score, I think they'd get it passed. But the truth is, they are more interested in "other things" - things that give them more hidden lucre and more power. it is just like the absence of any attempt by the democrats to relieve the poor of the draconian income tax burden. Talk is cheap but in the end, the dems do not care about the poor, either.
II. We are pertaining the conversation to Federal executions where the feds can indeed make a statement. I am not sure it is wise here to conflate the two, especially if you want to hold me liable for statements made about the federal death penalty and try to apply that to state death penalty,

This tells us we are talking about FEDERAL EXECUTIONS - for purposes of "HATE TRUMP", I am sure.
If you wish to start a thread or change this one completely then my answer is, I am against the death penalty.
