Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz not only spoke to Trump about the idea, but started a movement during a fundraiser about it that has taken off:

Last month, Mark Meadows, Trump's former White House chief of staff, said that he "would love to see the gavel go from (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi to Donald Trump. You talk about melting down -- people would go crazy."
And in June, the former president himself had this exchange with conservative radio talk-show host Wayne Allyn Root:

ROOT: "Why not, instead of just waiting for 2024, and I'm hoping you run in 2024, but why not run in 2022 for the United States Congress, a House seat in Florida, win big, lead us to a dramatic landslide victory, taking the House by 50 seats, and then you become the speaker of the House?"

TRUMP: "You know, it's very interesting. That's so interesting. And people have said, run for the Senate, OK, run for the Senate, but you know what? Your idea might be better. It's very interesting."

Obviously, this would only be a pit-stop on the way to Trump's 2024 presidential run. But this would give Trump power in the meantime, and keep Trump in government should he not succeed against Biden. From the MSNBC link in the OP:

"Under the fanciful hypothetical, once Trump held the gavel, he could start exacting revenge against those who defeated him, launching investigations into imagined scandals, and even initiating impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris."

This is quite a real possibility, given that Republicans are predicted to win the House in 2022. The Speaker of the House is second in line (after the VP) to become president of the United States. This means that Trump, should he lose in 2024, could initiate impeachment proceedings for "stealing the election" against Biden and Harris, and then become president. Obviously far-fetched since a 2/3 majority would be needed, but I wouldn't put it past Trump to at least attempt it.

You mean like when they impeached Trump for trying to force a country to spread dirt on a political rival in exchange for hundreds of millions in military aid?

Or do you mean like when they impeached him for causing a violent insurrection on the Capitol?

Either way, no, not like that.

I don't think he will run for anything.

I've been regretting for a while making american politics one of my hobbies.

I need a less depressing occupation, this gets sadder by the week

It is depressing, isn't it?
Even more depressing when
you consider that this, twice impeached,
disgraced, ex-president, still holds sway
among mullions of voters.

Lincoln won because 2 democrats ran against him so the Democrat votes were split.

When 2024 comes around we might have a better republican candidate.
If Trump runs as an independent he could steal votes from the republican and essentially give the election to the Democrat 🤔
