-Removed-I love Churchill’s quips, come-backs, put downs and his sense of PR (well before his time).
And he was excellent as wartime prime minister.
Nearly everything else about him is, indeed, extremely disappointing.
I will point out one thing else though. Churchill suffered from depressions and that marked his relationships and behaviour.
There is a story of a portait that was made of him (as former statesman… an official thing) and he was very down about it. He asked his wife if he really looked like that.
She threw the painting out the window.
And that is beauty. And love. And protection.
So Churchill is a mixed bag.
But not the ultimate hero the English make him out to be.
