Trump Is Trying to Blackmail the Supreme Court
The legal arguments for Trump’s tariffs are weak, so he’s arguing their rejection would bring ruin.
Do you agree that if the Tariffs are voided, that the stress on our economy when all monies are returned, and all producers, suppliers and delivery systems are pressured, that there will be caused a great strain, so much so that we will suffer greatly, to put it mildly?
If it is true, then does making that point amount to blackmailing SCOTUS? If it is true?
@AverageJoe1 saidIt's just more Trump lying.

If the tariffs are eliminated, the main emotion would be worldwide relief, as economic systems get back to normal.
The ONLY one who would suffer would be Trump, as he would suffer the loss of face if he were forced to remove the world-punishing tariffs. It's certainly not like he would consider it a lesson to be learned. To this day he is convinced that America wants a dictator.
@Suzianne said??? You say ecomomic systems would go back to normal? I am talking about the USA, you must be talking about EU and about 50 other nations.

What happens to the USA? I thought you were talking about what he said to Scotus about the ruin that could happen to the USA. 🤔

Prices go back to normal. That alone would be relief from this economic hijacking.
And how many times do we have to tell you? Trump lies. About everything.
@Suzianne saidOk, that’s fair. You argue,( I assume, you have looked into data of tariff history), that the USA would not be impacted by going back to pre-tariff status.
Nothing "happens" to the USA.

Then your post is a good post, that Trump is lying to say it will kill us.
You got me for the moment, because having a history of economics, there is still no way that even I can decide what the effect of canceling the tariffs would be. All of the ramifications of that sound monumental to me, so being monumental, I am a little guy that could never comment today whether it would be disastrous or as you say, of no effect.
So a good post, we can all take our positions and see what happens. I don’t have one position or another, I am not glued onto the Trump comment nor on your comment.
@Suzianne saidI wouldn't call it "blackmail" but there's a lot of totally irrelevant, non-legal arguments being made in legal filings by the administration.

The issue is whether the law permits the President to impose tariffs at all not what the economic consequences of tariffs are.
@Suzianne saidI don't think the term 'Blackmail' is quite what you are looking for.

These SJC jurists cannot be removed by the President. They are adults, and have nothing to fear.

Trump is on the verge of a booming economy, democrats could never win again.
Remember the last time Trump had the economy roaring?
Strangely a virus got released that tanked the economy.
What will they do this time?
@Mott-The-Hoople saidWhat "booming economy"? Job growth is almost non-existent, GDP growth is modest and the trade deficit is blowing up:

"In July, U.S. imports climbed by 5.9%, totaling $358.8 billion, while exports grew modestly by 0.3%, reaching $280.5 billion."

And as has been pointed out here many times, the economy during Trump's first term wasn't growing any faster than it did under Obama.
@no1marauder saidis u sure you know what "on the verge" means?

any particular reason you ignored that part?

I bet your small mind believes everything Trump ever said.

No, you do not, but yours is crappy.
@Mott-The-Hoople saidWhat you may not get is that the rest of the world is redrawing their alliances and moving on without the US. Trump has destroyed the position that took America 80 years to establish. Businesses worldwide can't deal with the instability and chaos of the Trump administration. I'm not sure America can pull back the position and influence it enjoyed before Trump crashed the party. He may have irrevocably damaged the way other nations do business with the US. That will be his legacy. The US is on the verge of becoming irrelevant.
