After 6 decades of publicly funded non-biased news reporting, PBS has voted to close shop, because Trump and his Republican stooges have cancelled funding.
Don't call it censorship. It's wilful stupidification. Republicans WANT people to be less-well-informed, because less-well-informed people are easier to manipulate. THIS is how democracies die.
Sorry, the link is too long, but go here and search on Corporation for Public Broadcasting to shut down.

@moonbus saidYes, this "anti-woke" nonsense is killing the spirit of America.

@Suzianne saidTrump and his P-2025 people are hell bent on controlling the media, to control the population. They buy out CBS, defund PBS, threaten to revoke the license of any station which broadcasts uncomplimentary news or opinions. Straight out of the Soviet playbook.
Yes, this "anti-woke" nonsense is killing the spirit of America.
@moonbus saidThis is really sad. I love the newshour and have been watching since the Jim lehrer years. The slow pacing, the focus on facts, the interviews with real experts, the deep dives into complex issues. It is the least biased news source on the planet.

@wildgrass saidYup. Just goes to show that Republicans can’t cope with truth. They have to control the narrative to stay in power.

@moonbus
Why would it be shut down? Seems to me it could continue without the matching funds from gov. PBS is public funded by half. If I were to donate $100 gov. would match that $100 for a total of $200.
Not to say a 50% reduction is not significant, but fundraising could be made a priority to try to make up for it.
@wildgrass saidPBS and NPR are not shutting down. They are just losing a significant amount of funding from gov.

Washington, D.C. (January 5, 2026) — The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the private, nonprofit corporation created by Congress to steward the federal government’s investment in public broadcasting, announced today that its Board of Directors has voted to dissolve the organization after 58 years of service to the American public.
The decision follows Congress’s rescission of all of CPB’s federal funding and comes after sustained political attacks that made it impossible for CPB to continue operating as the Public Broadcasting Act intended.

Why do you dispute facts? Again and again and again.
@moonbus saidCPB is shutting down. PBS and NPR are not. You can still have their left wing propaganda if all you whiners want to pay for it. Send in some donations.

@Cliff-Mashburn saidPBS rates very well on reliability, and very much more "balanced" on bias than, for example, Fox or Breitbart. Miles away from "crazy." If Trump doesn't like their reporting, it's only because Trump hates facts.
I stopped reading at "non-biased".
PBS is crazy biased towards the left, pure propaganda for Dems..

@moonbus saidQuoting a source that is just as biased that says PBS isn't biased., yeah that means a lot.

Here's an ex-Executive Vice President of PBS that quit in disgust because he couldn't go along with it anymore:
@Cliff-Mashburn
Which just goes to show that "bias" is relative. Everyone has a 'perspective.'--that's why defunding CPB is so dangerous: it actively undermines freedom of the press and leads straightaway to a Soviet-controlled propaganda machine which reports only what Trump wants it to report.
@moonbus saidUndermines freedom of the press? Baloney. PBS and NPR are still free to broadcast whatever they want. The difference is now they must do it without taxpayer money. Your insistence that I keep paying for CPB is like me insisting you have to pay for Fox or whatever right wing rag you despise.
