When will the American people start taking this issue seriously? Pollution is destroying our planet, yet American has pulled out of International agreements to reduce it.

Given the recent STORMS of unimaginable size, are people in the US starting to open their eyes yet?

This is not a general attack on Americans. The UK pollutes as well! However, what American does today, the world does tomorrow!!!! Why is the US so unconcerned when it is the US that is going to suffer more than most from the consequences?

C'mon now Rumsfelt is dealing with these very issues with his 'advisers'. Not to worry, we're at war here!

I could say the same thing about the poor farmers in the South American and African rain forests basins who are burning the rain forests to the same effects or worse. I agree that we are gluttonous to a fault with our SUVs (Hummers, no doubt), vast transportation systems based on one-driver cars, lack of viable public trasportation, etc....I think we pulled out of it because it would hurt our economy in a horrible way...it's a damn shame that our economy is gluttony-driven, but it's like a monkey on our back...hard to shake off...I would love to see all automobiles disappear......but what are the alternatives?...I'm all ears...

Your right! The rain forests being burned does cause lots of polution, though the farmers who do it, do it to clear land to grow crops. It is a sad fact that the land only sustains crops for a couple of years after they clear. It is something to do with the rain fall washing nutients out of the soil, forcing them to clear more forest as a result.

As for automobiles, im not against them. I didn't say people shouldn't have cars, just that polution is a problem. I'd like to see the US take the lead in developing alternatives. We are starting to see Bio fuel cars in europe. They aren't very fast, but they're ideal for city use. A lot of the fuel is produced out of rubbish! The flammable gases produced by rubbish de-compossing is harnessed to drive an engine. The bi product of this proccess produces water!

If govornment started giving tax breaks to companies developing environmentally friendly alternatives, im sure the great American free market would quickly solve a lot of our problems.

The simple fact is we are starting to feel the negative affects of our actions (the US in particular). Politicians are funded by Oil companies! As long as we accept this, we are doomed.

Sounds like a plan...I'll support it...

Tax higher fuel-consumption cars, or pay tax according to the size of their engine. Many would be angry because they need high-power vehicles but a heck of a lot more people would finally have a car with a more suitable amount of power to drive to work each day.

Just a suggestion.

Not a bad suggestion...there are too many SUVs in America in my opinion, and they are getting BIGGER and drinking more gas....altrnative fuel MUST be developed...but big oil would NEVER allow that to happen...😲

The UK govornment have started taxing fuel to excess, it's very unpopular (people care more for money than air it seems🙄). I think more money need to be spent on cleaner cars. There are models out there, govornment just need to give people an incentive to use them.

In London we have a charge to drive into the center. The traffic has just disappeared, just because of a £5 charge to enter. Surprissingly, this has proved quite popular. People who drive cars which don't polute (or ones which are significantly cleaner) are exempt. All we need now is a few nice looking cars that don't polute. Has there been any talk of similar schemes in the US?

Don't worry about it!

The Earth's climate changes radically every couple of thousand years anyways! No wee bit of pollution is gonna make too much difference there.
The last great radical change was about 10.000 years ago, so basically we're living on borrowed time.

Don't worry about it. Just buy a life jacket, a bikini (or trunks) and a nice warm coat...it will all work out.

But, say there is no radical climate change in our life-times. Don't worry about that either. There's always the chance of a meteorite slamming us and causing a nuclear winter...and there's even (an ever increasing) chance of the largest above-sea volcano (Yellowstone park) exploding. That happens every 600.000 years or so. And the last time she blew was 660.000 years ago.

Party on!
Don't let me cheer you up.
