@wildgrass saidSame old, same old.

I have no doubt that this trend in politics is related to the trend where the rich people don't have to pay taxes anymore.

The entire Republican Party and red states have been in on this from the beginning.
@wildgrass saidKleptocracy.

@wildgrass saidI'm talking about gerrymandering. They call it 'redistricting'.
Per the article, the Democrats aren't saints either. Both parties are slaves to the money train.
It's a Republican strategy from way back.
@Suzianne saidOf course R's aren't the only gerrymanderers.

From the perspective of the wealthy donors, they don't care who wins, only whether their bribe - er, donation - is enough to earn favorable changes to the tax code.
Of course, the solution is to get dark money out of politics forever. Some of this money is coming from overseas, apparently attempting to stir up enough doubt about election results to prompt civil discontent. Some of this money is coming from criminals, who are laundering money through crypto and asking politicians to look the other way. Some of this money is coming from the old-money wealthy who see how excesses in government help them but don't want to pay for it. A dollar in to a politician is ten dollars out, like a casino that never loses.
@wildgrass saidWilgrass, I can't get into WAPO because I've used all my freebies.

this is the reason why posters should include the first paragraph of said article.
@Earl-of-Trumps saidNot true either. It truly is both parties collecting this dark money which is probably coming from criminals and foreign governments. Lots and lots of money.
suzi, wrong again. it was invested bu the democrats.
There are a few politicians who are refusing to take the PAC money, but they are rare.
@Earl-of-Trumps said$93 million! Reminder this is just one state among 50, and redistricting is just one small chunk of the goings-on in politics.

Massive amounts of money are flowing into Virginia’s redistricting referendum as Democrats and Republicans from across the nation wrestle for control of the House of Representatives, but the identities of individual contributors — and their agendas — remain cloaked in secrecy. About 95 percent of the total $93 million raised so far in Virginia, as of a Monday night filing deadline, came from nonprofit groups not required to disclose their donors, according to state elections records. The proportion of dark money turning up on both sides of the campaign outstrips last year’s similar referendum in California, where wealthy individuals, political committees and unions gave far more than similar nonprofits.
@wildgrass saidI was responding to suzi's charge concerning REDISTRICTING, claiming it was a republican weapon,

and i mangled my reply. I was trying to tell Suzianne that the first ever case of gerrymandering was by the democrats.

Ya hear that Suzianne?? Right into the blue state, Virginia where dems just took back the governorship,
you can't beat the dems at cheating. The repubs may cheat, but by the time they do, they're only copying the dems.

He believes weird sh** too.
@wildgrass saidBut the rich pay more than 50% of all taxes. How would these revenues be otherwise derived.? You are leaving something out, surely.
