When I hear about the horrible things happening in the US economy, all that I hear is "opportunity". The supply of homes is HUGE. Stock prices are dropping...good! Maybe I can get a foothold in the stock market for cheap. The Governator admitting the school systems in California cannot be repaired without additional funds despite his campaign promises (LA Times, yesterday).
I'm in education. I see who are the teachers and who are the tutors and I know I'm better than most at actual teaching, though my paper shuffling and babysitting of undisciplined kid skills aren't so great. Those I can work on though.
All the doom and gloom seems to be for the rich folks. The future looks bright to my eyes.
Am I foolish to see things this way?
I vote, not entirely foolish.
For people with secure jobs and a few savings it'll probably be pretty good.
Although if the economy slows there will be probably be quite a few job cuts, prices for goods will creep up, people who are just about paying off their mortgages now will be in a bit of trouble, and generally life will be made a little harder.
I doubt whether rich folks will feel the pressure so much, they'll be able to use their money to ride out the problem most likely.
Mind you, I'm from the UK so I only see the news from our end, and although it is affecting us slightly I don't think it's as bad as a lot of people make out.

You must be one of those people who took out a debt and then failed to pay. Sorry, sucks to be you, but it gives those of us close to the bottom of the food chain a chance to rise.

THe greater it grows the more we are ALL affected. Am I one of the ones who overextended themselves with a bad mortgage? No. However, I have been effected negativly by it and I also do feel for those who have and would not wish that on anyone. The potential for this to not only effect the US economy but the entire world economy is tremendous. It will get much worse for everyone before it gets better.

paper shuffling! it's not all automated, yet?
Or how do you automate handing flyers to children each of the next three Fridays as well as a detailed explanation of why you're giving them flyers and why it's really important they don't make paper airplanes out of them or throw them away?

I'd think you'd be annoyed by the idiots who didn't pay their debts. They're the ones who did this.
