Of course...but how do you keep them from getting away with it?
Hose em down with paint.
The correct thing to do was for the USN to keep their discipline. If they didn't, we would have 3 badly damaged ships. Possibly 3 sunken ships. No sense starting a war on the enemies terms.
Here's what happens when the Navy does it it's way.

It's so lopsided that the USN actually tells the Iranians that they are going to sink them before they fire on them. It's the best part of the video. The quote is...
"This is a warning. Stop, and abandon ship. I intend to sink you"

Edit: Tha the Iranians just threw their friggin trash in the sea wouldn't bother them any, though.

How long do you think it would take the Navy and Air Force to remove those missiles?

The paintballs in red, white and blue so these idiots can identify that this is a US Navy warship.
If that doesn't work, autocannons.
Let's see. There are a bunch of water-ski boats harassing Aegis-Class destroyers that can shoot down orbiting satellites and incoming inter-continental ballistic missile war heads. (shhhhh! we're not supposed to know!) Hmmm...
I say that if they can't find any "ski-boat residue" , Iran will have a hard time saying that they were attacked. But nobody asked me.
Can you spell "Vapo-matic 6000" ?

Just fine. A little excited and grinning from ear to ear. You have to admit it would be fun to fry a few Persians. Payback for Jimmy Carters war???

Originally posted by AThousandYoungIf you don't think that a battle fleet can handle ANY attack that Iran could mount, you are missing the point of the Aegis class destroyer. It's main job is to defend against missile attack. It DEFENDS the carriers and other ships from missiles. If it can't do it in the straits of Hormuz then it would be good to find out now.

I would bet on the Aegis.
