If it is confirmed that North Korean has officially sent troops (not volunteers - see below) operating on Russian soil and engaging in combat with Ukraine, that means that North Korea and Russia are now military allies.

But the United States and North Korea being still technically at war (since 1950) means that the US is drawn into any war with North Korea's allies; and since Ukraine is also at war with Russia, this means that Ukraine becomes a US ally, fighting a common enemy.

Note that in the 1950's, China did not "officially" ally with North Korea - that would have opened China to attacks from South Korea's defenders. Instead the ~ 1 million Chinese that entered the war fighting for North Korea were labeled 'volunteers.'

So are these North Koreans in Russia also 'volunteers'?

Very smart move by North Korea. NK needs a major ally, and it's not like the US can get any more angry/suspicious of NK than it already is.

As evil and backwards as Putin and Kim Jong Un are, as I'm on record on this board already, I think it's time to negotiate a peace between Ukraine and Russia, even if it means letting Russia keep heavily Russian territories it now holds in eastern Ukraine.

I think anything short of capitulating the entirety of Ukraine to Russia, as Trump is believed to want, would, at this point, be a win.

Or, the US could end the war by deploying troops to Ukraine to engage the North Koreans. They would be legitimately there, fighting a country we are already at war with.

But any attack on those US troops would trigger Article 5.

That would inevitably end in regime change in Russia and a total Ukrainian victory.
