Looks like the government has more money than it knows what to do.

Are you going to keep opening threads like this every week?

I work in science. Most science is, frankly, useless. Some of it will lead to amazing applications and insights. When Einstein was developing relativity theory, he wasn't thinking that his theory would be useful for your car navigation, yet it would not work without understanding relativity. It's impossible to tell beforehand if some research is going to lead somewhere - that's why science needs public funding.

If science needs funding, then let the funding come from private donations. The government shouldn't have to right to take money from me to spend it in such stupid ways.

A single Tomahawk missile can cost almost twice as much.

It appears the study may reveal valuable insights into many species, including humans. And there is another more immediate benefit besides: scientific researchers are kept employed, thereby enhancing the prospects of anyone thinking of entering into a STEM field. Just generally, if you want to keep the Empire competitive in science and technology, this is how you do it. This is how you attract the best students to your university to pursue an advanced degree and make a contribution to future imperial glory. You should be eating it up.

Are you not getting enough sex?

First it was sluts and now it's snails.

If you put sluts and nailed together I suppose you get snails.

This is a family show. Take it to the porn forum. 🙂

You know, we in the UK have regular events like LiveAid and Comic Relief to raise money for the unfortunate residents of failed states where there is no wasteful spending on government and public services and where everything is left to private funding. Hey those Ethiopians don't half show enterprise when they are deprived of a welfare state.

Why not use LiveAid and Comic Relief to raise money for these studies? Why use the power of government to take money away from people to force them to do it?

Beyond irony. There is no point pretending this is a debate. It is a rant.

Yeah, investing in science is a really poor investment. You wouldn't want to develop new technologies now, would you?

Last time I checked, investing in science isn't the reason for taxes. Perhaps you can find it in the US Constitution.

I'll tell you what, Elander, when one of these "useless" government supported endevours ends up with something that will improve or even save your life, can we cut you out of the rewards?

You need to move to Somalia. VERY little government and no government spending. Also no infrastructure like roads, shools, hospitals, universities, etc. But you will have your money. I'n sure you will be very happy there.

I didn't say they were useless, just an inappropriate use of tax money.

Why don't you bring a case to SCOTUS arguing for a ban on federal and state funding of any and all education?

Why bring a case before a joke court?
