The post that was quoted here has been removedI agree, putting boots on the ground in Iran - no matter what the reason - is an invasion. My point was that it might be neccessary or at least helpful to protect the carrier groups and the straits. If Iran can launch anti-ship missiles from Iran, they can shut down the straits. If the straits get closed, it's even more of a disaster for the U.S. than putting boots on the ground. Provided those boots leave after the strike.
And after that, who's to say Iran doesn't retaliate by shutting down the straits? Not that I think they would, but they could. The U.S. really can't politically afford to let that happen.
One thing I'm comfortable saying is that an Iraq style invasion is not happening anytime soon. The only military action we could take in the near future is an airstrike and I'm not sure that makes sense until we know something with regards to Irans nuclear program. At this point, we don't know anything other than they are most likely a long way from having nuclear weapons.
Just too add something else into the mix of military capability in the region.
Isn't the U.S currently asking Israel too play safe with it's threat to strike Iran's nuclear facilities.
If the US at some point in the future want to "knock Iran down a peg or two" it has the perfect Allie in the area.
Israel has all the latest US war equiptment and are trained by US forces. It would be quite easy to form a military alliance with israel if a "operation" against Iran was too be carried out..
Just a thought....

dude, bush and cheney are that stupid. the thing is that they don't have enough time(thank god) next year is election year and hopefully not even they cannot start a war until then.
iran just has to play it safe(eat less sugar, switch to decaffeinated coffee, maybe slow down on the "nucular" program and "US are servitors of Satan"😉 and they could make it.
