What would the world look like today if the US had defeated the british in 1812 and Canada did not exist?

"President Madison's use of economic pressure to force England to repeal its blockade almost succeeded. The revival of the Non-Intercourse Act against Britain, prohibiting all trade with England and its colonies, coincided with a poor grain harvest in England and with a growing need of American provisions to supply the British troops fighting the French in Spain. As a result, on June 16, 1812, the British Foreign Minister announced that the blockade would be relaxed on American shipping. Had there been an Atlantic cable, war might have been averted. President Madison had sent a message to Congress on June 1 listing all the complaints against England and asking for a declaration of war. Dividing along sectional lines the House had voted for war on June 4, but the Senate approved only on June 18 and then by only six votes."

I figure that if you are in the capital of the enemy and don't WIN the war, then you lost.
But what do I know. Seems that Canada, Britain and the US are all just fine now.
just google "war of 1812" to get a list of all the "battles" fought. My definition of war is "a series of battles".

As a refresher, the AMERICANS declared war on the British...not the other way round. The Americans crossed from Michigan into Canada and captured a town called "Sandwich" (near present day Windsor across from Detroit). The Americans pressed north for quite some time until they were repelled and sent back across the border.
Many more battles were fought and it is true the British were in Washington. However, it wasn't a whole army...it was just some troops that took a few ships down the river to Washington. They captured the White House from the few troops who stayed to fight the British (most fled). Upon arriving at the White House, the British found the Americans were just about to sit down to eat dinner. All the food was still on the table, so the British sat down and ate the food. When they were finished eating, they burned the White House to the ground.
A few years later after the Americans re-invaded Canada, the British returned to Washington and burned the newly constructed White House to the ground again.
Eventually, the Americans signed a treaty with the British ending the war. The truth is, the Americans invaded first, were repelled, then they'd re-invade, get repelled again...etc etc. This went on for many years. Finally, they agreed to stop invading and in 1867 Canada became its own country after signing the British North America Act.
The moral of the story is...don't mess with Canada
