I would think that if extra terrestrials did exist, or if long distance space flight was even possible, we would have known about them by now and it would be a larger part of our life than it is now.
Also, along this same line of thinking, if there is one group of extra terrestrials that can fly through space long distance than there would probably be several others who have the same capabilities. We would know about them too.
Just my thoughts.
As for extraterrestrials, I think life almost certainly exists elsewhere in the universe, but I doubt it has found or visited us.

The inbred hicks go to a UFO sighting with sawed off shotguns, grenades and M16s attacked to their pick-ups...
If the UFO's came to Holland all they would get was a handfull of immigration papers and some of the right wing politicians demanding they get sent back to where they came from...

Let's flip the situation around. Let's say you had the ability to fly over to another planet and spy on the natives. Would you?
I love the X-Files but I don't believe little gray men have been interfering with our government, probing rednecks, making pictures in the corn or crashing in Roswell ... I want to believe, but I don't.
Should we ever discover aliens it would probably be something more like the original Alien movie anyway.
