The vampire can convert into whatever shape it pleases .It bites you and drinks your blood for revigored youth for itself. But you dont die immediately when it gives you its blood .You live your remaining life under its influence and when you die you become a vampyre. But they do run away when you use a crucifix ,holy water, garlic ,sunlight or a nice sharp stake right through its middle.
Not at all, a Vampyre may also allow you to drink their blood at the point of death to have you reborn as one. In Japanese folklore there are vampyres that can change shape to an insect, bite you in the night and you wake up dead... I imagine it's pretty hard to vanquish one of them with a crucifix.
Still the waiting period is too much.I'm better off gettimg bitten by a werewolf and then using a (silver)bulletproof suit from then onwards.
Speaking of the sewers. I always though the "can not cross running water" curse was the worst thing about being a vampire. With all the water pipes in a modern building it's imposible to get out of your penthouse haven, and if you somehow succed, there is the problem with crossing the street because of the sewers underneath.
