Why isn't the West rooting for Abdullah Abdullah in Afghanistan? Hamid Karzai appears to have stolen the election. Election observers there have said there was widespread voting fraud and intimidation during the presidential election on Thursday. The West "took a stand" over the Iranian elections. Why not now in Afghanistan?

Because Karzai is a puppet of the West, I suppose.

Good question. Which czar is in charge of this anyway?

Edit: Wait. We took a stand?

I was thinking the same thing.

There was plenty of chirping, but I don't recall any government taking much of a stand. Ahmidenijad is in power and I don't see any western government doing much about it.

But, yes, I'm sure there was more chirping then because we like Karzai better than Ahmidenijad.

A much better question is why are we even there to begin with? What do we hope to accomplish? If I recall, the former USSR spent years there explaining why we should not be doing the same.

He ran out of marxist leftist czars. What can I say, there are only a hand full left in the world and they are all either have positions in Congress or currently a czar.

Not only the USSR.
Every bloody imperialist nation since Ghengis Khan have been explaining why we shouldn't be there at all.

Ever heard the expression: "Up the Kyber" when something is awfully wrong? That's from when Britain was there in the 19th century.

He's also a crook.

Embarrassingly for the West, the Taliban now appears to be gaining in popularity with its innovation approach of doing what the government is supposed to be doing.
