California Governor Gavin Newsom said he is scuttling plans to build a high-speed railroad between Los Angeles and San Francisco, saying the ambitious project that was approved by voters is too costly.

“The project, as currently planned, would cost too much and take too long,” Newsom told lawmakers in Sacramento, the state capital. “There’s been too little oversight and not enough transparency.”

Newsom’s decision comes more than a decade after Californians approved using $10 billion in state bonds to jump-start construction of the line that promised to shuttle passengers on trains running as fast as 220 miles (354 kilometers) an hour.

The project was long opposed by Republicans in the statehouse and in Congress, who tried to choke off federal funding. Former Governor Jerry Brown championed the bullet train as a way to combat climate change.

The agency charged with building the line has estimated it would cost $77 billion to complete, with a mix of state, federal and private money.

Despite lawsuits from property owners and taxpayer groups seeking to block it, as well as cost overruns and delays, workers are currently building a stretch of the line between Merced and Bakersfield in the state’s parched Central Valley farming region. Newsom said that work would continue.

“I know that some critics will say this is a ‘train to nowhere.’ But that’s wrong and that’s offensive,” he said. “The people of the Central Valley endure the worst air pollution in America and have some of the longest commutes. And they have suffered too many years of neglect from policymakers respectfully here in Sacramento.”

This quote says it all, “There’s been too little oversight and not enough transparency.”

This is how the Left operates. Currently, the GOP is trying to get a debate going on the Green New Deal in the Senate Funny thing, the Left wants none of it and says such attempts are attempts to destroy the Green New Deal. Well if debate does that, what does that say about the Green New Deal?

This article states California has already wasted $5 billion on the railway, which will go nowhere.

Of course, Progs think that debt does not matter, so who cares, right?

Conversely, this money could have been used to build the wall along the border. This is the only time Dims seem concerned about spending.

I have not seen Cortez website (don’t want email address linked to it in any way, brrrr) but I did read that it DOES in fact say to do away with air travel. Can this group not stipulate whether she promotes that or not.

You have to understand, AOC is the Trump of the Left. More follow her on Twitter than any other Dim. She is what the DNC has always praised, socialist, a minority, and a woman. And lastly, she is cute and young.

As a result, every Dim wants a piece of her as they all clamor to support her due to her popularity within the party. They then will sign onto anything she wants or thinks knowing that the DNC is more of a cult than a political party, so I'm not sure them supporting things not viable even matter. California has proven that. The entire state is a zombie like DNC cult that drinks the cool aid ever day of their lives.

    Sad.

The most frightening thing is, I'm sure socialism is as popular as ever in places like Venezuela, so they never learn. Flushing $5 billion down the commode won't change any of their votes in Caluifornia, just like those in Venezuela will continue to vote socialists despite now eating out of garbage cans.

Make up your mind. Dims? Progs? Newsom is both, btw. Remember, he’s the SF mayor-gay marriage guy. “He said he was inspired to allow same-sex marriages after hearing President George Bush describe the need to prevent same-sex marriage, possibly by a federal constitutional amendment, in his State of the Union address.” -wikipedia

I love how he sets up a strawman about what "some people will say" and then calls it offensive.

Anyway, a high speed rail option between LA and SF is a great idea, if they can figure out how to build it. Maybe they can contract it out to Elon Musk.
