There was a window. Republicans could have said no thanks. Maybe we would rather support someone with workable solutions to problems. competent. Actually conservative. Someone who avoids legislating behaviors they don't like.

So many republican governors are very very popular. Ron, the leading contender to trump, is among the least popular because he's so unnecessarily divisive. Culture warrior by day, giant mouse killer by night. But many others, Charlie Baker, asa Hutchinson, Phil Scott and Larry Hogan all with higher approval ratings than Ron, have 60+% popularity, even in blue states. They are effective, smart and electable. These numbers indicate that voters want limited.government but it isn't being offered by trumpy Republicans on the national stage.

Why keep trump around? He offers nothing.

@wildgrass

Republicans had their chance to ditch Trump when the House impeached him the first time. They showed their true colors then, cowardly yellow, and they haven’t changed in the meantime.

I know. They've had many chances. Just wondering why they continue to worship incompetence.

He offers security. There is no better. Other than that, president choice is not a big deal, as long as America will go along with the constitution, free enterprise, such as that. If Biden would do that, hell, I would vote for him, except for his age.
One proviso, the new president would get some trains ready to take aliens back to Mexico. Everyone that has crossed that border illegally. Tell me this … If we allow illegals to come in, and have a law that says no one can hire them, what in the hell is supposed to happen?

Fear. It’s that simple. Republican politicians at the federal level are afraid of losing his blessing. But the people are speaking out at state levels. Look at the results in NE and SC, where politicians’ attempts to enact near-total abortion bans at the point of fetal heartbeat have failed to pass state legislatures, with local Republicans voting against. They don’t fear losing Trump’s blessing, so they vote what their constituents want, not what Trump tells them to. The irony, of course, being that Trump himself doesn’t care about abortion, one way or the other; he’s merely currying favor with Evangelicals.

Just a note, the president doesn't make the rules, the congress does. You are writing as if a president is king. Methinks you would LIKE to have a king, like a plantation owner. Hmmmmmm, what would that make you. For starters,, he would own you as did the plantation owners of yore. Ahhh, the thrill of dependency.

You’re right, Trump doesn’t make rules; he breaks them. Trump had Mitch McConnell in his pocket, and with him the cowardly Republican Senate. McConnell knew Trump was a loose cannon and still did nothing to rein him in.

Looks like Pence is gonna hang trump.

And there’s an irony in that which is beautiful.

The Beer Hall Putsch didn't stop Hitler, so I don't see how know-nothing Republicans are ever going to come 'round to repudiating Trump until bombs are rattling their bunkers.

EDIT: Unless someone worse than Trump catches on.

Ah, you mean Trump gives us security, WHITE BOY security, any tinge of brown, go back to Guatemala.....
I also assume you LOVE the idea of the Christian nationalist's trying to force the US into a Christian version of the Taliban.
I think there is nothing more stupid and criminal than not even allowing women to have an education or even hold a job like the Taliban do but I have no doubt that would be the direction of the Christian nationalists.
What, you say you never heard of them? You MIGHT google the term.

I mentioned 4 other republican state governors with stellar records on a limited govt agenda and very high approval ratings. Why not them?

.

Trump has a nasty habit of turning on his own people, staff, and allies in the congress.
But to constituents, he's a great president with skill and no-how.

I have no use for such a candidate however, If I had to choose between Trump and a democrat,.. well, you know what I would do.

Why do you claim Desantis is divisive? He is no more divisive than Trump.
The only reason Trump is doing so well in the polls is because he gets so much media attention. The news media controls who becomes president.

The establishment secretly wants Trump to be the next president. They are just pretending to be against him so the American people will think he is anti establishment. The reason is simple. That is the kind of candidate the people want so the establishment is giving you their pretender. It is either that or they will get a real anti establishment candidate.

I agree, ditch Trump. Ditch Biden too. Support RFK jr.

Republicans will not accept Pence. He is an establishment stooge. He is a war hawk and people are sick of paying for war while our infrastructure is falling apart.
