"Political news coverage tends to focus on strategy over substance, and that’s making it less likely that the public will agree on big policy ideas when we need them the most."

An interesting piece on how the Green New Deal is framed, who it will affect politically and how over how good its proposals are and if they are enough to save the planet.

Btw, I am uninterested if you don't believe climate change is real and i (and hopefully all others who know a sliver of science) will ignore any posts trying for the nth time to dispute established science.

I think a lot of people believe in the climate issue and support a solution.
From what I’ve read (as a Canadian) about the deal, I note that the proponents are piggybacking their ideology onto the solution.
Sneaking Socialism through the bathroom window, so to speak.
I have to ask what free tuition has to do with a solution to our climate problem.
I’m sure that someone will answer that question by putting out enough dots and then connecting them.

The free market system will lead the way, IMO.
    It always does.

Did he really need 8 minutes and 34 seconds to explain the concept of tactical framing? I could have explained it in 20 seconds.

Anyway, the biggest problem with the GND is that it tried to be both an environmental protection agenda and a social and economic justice agenda. The two have nothing to do with each other, but by combining them, you virtually assure the tactical framing the clip complains of.

How does the free market incentivise saving the planet when doing harmful crap isn't costing them any profits?

Educating people helps the environment too. Educating coal miners lets them find other jobs when coal inevitably dies. Like jobs rebuilding your crumbling infrastructure. Poor people tend to be less concerned with what happens to their planet 10 years from now when they are in danger of starving next month.

So once you think about it, they have slightly more than nothing to do with each other.

Exactly Zahlanzi. And we are wasting our time parsing what this 25 yr-old person is selling. It will change daily when she starts saying, ‘Oh, what I meant was..’.. Just like Omar, who says we didn’t understand her anti-semite comments.

I’m big time conservative, I was moderate until I started reading these liberal forums. Scary stuff, folks, these concepts you seem to believe in. Cortez said yesterday that capitalism is unredeemable and unsustainable. I feel that Trump wins in 2020, but the libs are laying foundations for 2024, and I feel the liberals will win then, and will forever be in charge. The Govt will be in charge. Think now about how her ideas will be implemented, everyone equal (uh, some don’t WANT to be equal. Tough.)

I just saw a documentary on Hitler’s confiscating all the rare art inEurope. Do you think the new mob rule, a Democracy replacing our Republic, will do something like that, in the re-distribution process? Not being silly here. Big things a’comin.

    "I’m big time conservative"
A real conservative wouldn't support a wasteful fossil fuel industry

"Cortez said yesterday that capitalism is unredeemable and unsustainable."
Unchecked capitalism maybe. Sweeden does capitalism and it's doing just fine. Germany does capitalism and it's doing just fine.

"I feel that Trump wins in 2020"
    He won't

"and will forever be in charge"
That's because republicans don't win on ideas, they win because of your idiotic electoral college system and gerrymandering.

"The Govt will be in charge. "
Of some things. As it should be. You elect your government to represent your interests. You don't elect a single CEO and he wouldn't represent your interests anyway but that of his shareholders.

"Think now about how her ideas will be implemented, everyone equal"
She never said that. You heard it on Fox News

" I just saw a documentary on Hitler’s confiscating all the rare art inEurope"
    Heeeeeeeres Adolf!!

"Do you think the new mob rule, a Democracy replacing our Republic, will do something like that, in the re-distribution process? "
Something like nazi Germany you say?

    "Not being silly here. "
Noooo. Silly? You? Comparing medicare for all and green new deal with nazi germany? Hardly. That's a totally reasonable and completely non-silly thing to say.

Aaaaaaand i am done withh you as well.

Is sh76 the only reasonable (ie non-insane, i have really low standards) conservative on these forums? Are all you others completely batpoop crazy?

Does anyone remember any other conservative that can at least tie some sentences together to resemble, no matter how vaguely, an argument?

What would happen to the climate if every living thing farted at the same time? 🤔

OK, then I have a question. Many many liberals want to abolish ICE. Would not the same reasoning apply, that we should abolish the police department in Chicago?

How do you manifest not using oil in your life? You do a bike? While you do that, other countries who do NOT ride bikes will kick our butt. (Cortez says no more air travel? SO all the other countries will take huge advantage of us having to make 3-day train trips!! haha)

Germany, whatever.....what I am Saying to you is that we should regard what Cortez is saying. She will be dem front-runner in 2024. Not so silly, dont you think?

Don't need tutelage on government representing interests. That is not the point. Simply saying, lives will be much more govt controlled....just my opinion, like, Trump will win in 2020. Just an opinion.

Her programs indeed are going to Really reduce choices, enterprise, prosperity, creativity, independence. Remember, she will be just fine, and Bernie has FOUR houses. Socialism is for the people, but not for the Socialists.

You take exception above to my comment about Mob Rule? Do you know what a democracy is? Mob Rule. So, stay with me here,.....did you not say above that the Electoral College is Idiotic?!?? You thus imply to get rid of the Electoral College??? That means voting will be all added up with no factors, no formulas, as does the electoral college presently.
    You are touting Mob Rule.

He's right. Going with green technology to help the planet is pointless when most of the other countries are not. It would have to be a world wide effort.
