Winmx shut down under threat of major legal action.. is this of interest or am I behind the times.
I can't condone copyright cheating and stealing but occasionally I need something that just isn't available and have achieved a collection of some interesting old tracks and radio commentaries from around the world.
I hadn't used it for a fair while.. and when I did was surprised to find it had closed operations. One commentary said they are moving from Canada to Vanawatu where they will start again under French law making it hard for the record companies to sue.
I would never put newly bought CD's on my hard drive and let people steal from the recording artists and I'd never down load my favourite records from the charts. I wait until they come off top tier price and buy them.. records don't cost a lot. I wouldn't steal from a band or muso.
Could record companies employ WinMx to provide legitimate sharing on a subscriber basis for a reasonable fee.
CD's don't last very long physically could downloading be a metter option for music purchase?
What or other cheat share sites there are plenty of alternatives like Limewire ..are they next?
Besides Napster, is this case involving WinMX the only other case won by the RIAA and Hollywood(forgot their acronym)???
I have not been keeping up on the issue.
Where does this leave other P2P services such as Bit-Torrent Lime-Wire, Soul Seek, eMule, Shareaza and others???
Is Kazaa or Bit-Torrent still up???
I got tired of Kazaa's crappy content, and I can't use Bit-Torrent because my router can't handle the high number of connections and bandwidth for too long with out resetting. Bit-Torrent smokes!
Anyone recommend their favorite P2P service, or best.
eMule/ED2K networks have been developing a server less method which is supposed to out smart the RIAA, or at least keep P2P afloat.
user may be on their own!
Anyone know of this???
Your best shot is to use ip-filtering with any p2p service, its a constant cat and mouse game.
