You get miles or points or whatever for credit card purchases. As long as you don't carry a balance, credit cards cost you nothing. In fact, you get the points/miles as gravy. In 6 months of using my Jet Blue American express. I now have enough points for a free round trip ticket to California (or 2 round trips to closer places...)

The card doesn't cost me a dime (well, actually I think it has a $40 annual fee... small potatoes).
